Professor MeiLan Han is a Professor of Internal Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Michigan Health System and Director of the Michigan Airways Program, both in MI, USA. Professor Han completed a Master of Science degree in Clinical Research Design and Statistical Analysis at the University of Michigan School of Public Health. She is a member of several professional societies, including the American Thoracic Society and the European Respiratory Society.
Professor Han's research focuses on using imaging to define disease phenotypes in COPD. She is the Principal Investigator at the University of Michigan for two large COPD cohort studies as well as several other studies relating to new screening tools and treatment interventions in COPD. Professor Han also has expertise in the health effects of air pollution, tobacco use and e-cigarettes, as well as lung health in ageing, bronchiectasis, vaccination, influenza and pneumonia. She is an Associate Editor for the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine and serves on the editorial boards for several journals, including Thorax, Lancet Respiratory Medicine and Journal for the COPD Foundation. Additionally, Professor Han serves on the scientific committee for the Global Obstructive Lung Disease, is a member of the scientific advisory committee for both the COPD Foundation and the American Lung Association, and a spokesperson for the American Lung Association.

Professor Han’s research interests are related to large clinical trials in COPD, defining disease phenotypes, new screening methods and treatment interventions, as well as the impact of smoking and smoke exposure on lung health.
